Surface & Groundwater
Surface and groundwater water testing includes collecting and testing water from bores, ponds, streams, creeks, farming run-off systems and other bodies of water that have been formed from rainfall or run-off from another location, either on the surface or under the ground.
Collecting & Testing Flowing Water
Surface water samples are collected in a variety of ways. To collect a stream or creek sample a long pole is used with a clamp on the end that holds a small container that is dipped into the water source, filled, retracted, fitted with a lid and sent to our laboratory for testing and analysis.
Groundwater Water Samples
To collect groundwater from a well, a rod and reel system is used by lowering down a vessel to collect a water sample then winding it up, containing and storing it for lab testing. As per the surface water collection process, sterilization is integral to prevent contamination for an accurate lab result.
Agricultural Groundwater Testing
WTHB also collects samples and tests residual groundwater for various parameters relative to resource consents, particularly on agricultural land such as feedlots or around landfills. Once samples have been collected they may then be lab-tested for the presence of harmful bacteria, high levels of particular chemicals, and other unwanted material.
Public Waterway Testing
There are many other scenarios where surface or groundwater needs to be collected and tested. For instance, a bathing water lagoon close to a beach where children play in summer needs to be regularly tested during the warmer months to ascertain the presence of any pathogens that could harm people, especially after heavy rain and high temperatures.
Need your water tested?
Please give us a call or send a message to discuss how to go about it.
*Please note: We are not water consultants. We collect water samples, conduct laboratory testing, and provide reports with analysis that defines what's in water samples. However, it is up to our clients to decide what to do with these findings as the reporting of opinion and interpretation is outside of the scope of our IANZ accreditation. We are able to refer clients onto consultants for advice and solutions but we do not offer those services ourselves.
